"Hume denied that we have any idea of Self. This may seem Paradoxial, That I should say that I do Not have an idea of myself, yet here again hume wants to test what we mean by a self by "from what impression could this idea be deriv'd?" is there any continuos and identical reality which forms our of the self?

Do we have any one impression that is invariably associated with our idea of self?

when I enter most intimately into what i call Myself, iI always stumble on some particular perception or other, of heat cold,love or hatred, pain or pleasure.

i never can catch myself at any time without a perception and never can observe anything but the perception.it is nothing but a bundle of different perceptions.

how then do we account for what we think is the self? it is the power of memory that gives the impression of our continous identity.a mind is a kind of theater where several perceptions successivly make their apperance, but we have not the most distant notion of the place where these scenes are represented... "
